Dirty Carpets and Health and Home

Maintaining carpets properly can help improve indoor air. Because carpets do much more. It is important to note that your tile cleaning north shore will act as the main air filter of contaminants and allergens in your home.

Dr. Michael Berry, Ph. Michael B. Berry has a Ph.D. and was the director of EPA Environmental Criteria and Assessment Office. Berry writes in “Protecting the Built Environment – Carpet Cleaning For Health” that the dirty carpets is the number one problem for indoor cleaning. Care and maintenance are the only way to fix it. The carpet, according to the speaker, acts as a sink that gathers contamination from both within and outside. It collects soil, dirt and other contaminants. The sink should be emptied when full. The need for carpet cleaning increases.

The air inside can actually be polluted. Well, it’s true. Air becomes trapped indoors. Rarely is the entire air replaced. In fact, air from the outside is taken off by a fan and replaced with newer fresh air. The carpet you use can collect pollutants that then get trapped inside the house. You can dump them on your carpet when you walk over it. As they walk on them, everyone breathes in the particles. The dust is visible even when it is fluttering about in sunlight or streams. Air pollution indoors is a result of breathing the air in repeatedly.

Berry points out that carpets may breed bacteria if not cleaned properly. Clean your sinks regularly and be sure to clean all carpets. They are often cleaned because the carpets appear dirty. It is not until you start to see dirt that your carpet has become filthy. Proper vacuuming is very beneficial. Even expensive vacuums are only able to collect about 15% of real soil. All of the remaining soil including allergens and bacteria will also collect. Berry believes that the majority of people clean their carpets infrequently to help keep air fresh.
